Self Publishing
Self-publishing: what’s involved?

We are dedicated to making self-publishing an easy, affordable option, free of pitfalls and confusion. We keep it simple, all our charges are listed and there are no hidden costs, plus we are available to explain anything we have not made crystal clear.

Are you an unknown writer with a completed manuscript and a dream of seeing it published? Before self-publishing became readily available, that dream would probably have remained just that … a dream. Unless you’re a previously published author, a celebrity, or you have a dedicated agent, the chances of your book being accepted by a conventional publishing house are dismally small. So don’t be disheartened if you’ve been rejected. Publishing houses reject tens of thousands of unsolicited book proposals every year, and thereby often miss the opportunity to discover new talent. This cannot be helped as most books do not make large profits and conventional publishing houses need to stay in business. But how many manuscripts containing fascinating stories, anecdotal history or important ideas are gathering dust in lofts? What a waste! Don’t let yours be one of them.

You can publish your book under our imprint, whereby we are the publishers but you retain full editorial control, plus ALL rights (such as, copyright, translation, film and TV rights,  publishing under your own imprint, being taken up by a conventional publishing house).

Alternatively, if you wish to be the publisher and publish under your own imprint, we will guide you through the steps to achieve that.

Are you prepared to market your book? With modern technology, you can get as many or as few copies printed as you want and so there is no need to hold large stocks, which is a very good thing because the fly in the publishing ointment is always marketing and distribution, and anyone who tells you otherwise is not being straight with you. Nobody, including major publishing houses, can predict whether or not your book will sell, or make it sell. Simply put: there are NO guarantees.

Self-published authors are generally the best advocates for their books. There is kudos in having a book in print, and people love to meet authors. So, how much energy are you prepared to put into marketing? Are you eager to really go for it, get out there, show off your book and talk about it, bringing energy and enthusiasm to getting the attention of as many people as possible? Or would you be content with seeing your book in your local area/town bookstores, or even simply on the shelves of family and friends? For many people, the sense of achievement and satisfaction in that is sufficient. Either way, we are here to help.  Although we do not offer a marketing service, we will advise you and provide all the information you could possibly need.
